This section describes the following tasks:
To configure a Data ONTAP 10.0 system to use an NIS domain, use the services nis-domain new command. You can configure multiple NIS domains for a given virtual server, but only one NIS domain can be active on a virtual server at any given time. You can also configure an NIS domain with more than one virtual server.
When you create an NIS-domain configuration, you specify a virtual server name, an NIS domain name (the NIS domain must already exist), whether the configuration is active, and a list of one or more NIS-server IP addresses. The following example creates an NIS domain configuration on a virtual server named vs0. The NIS domain is named example.com. The configuration is active upon creation and uses NIS servers with the IP addresses 10.98.200.100 and 10.98.200.101.
node::>services nis-domain new -vserver vs0 -domain example.com -active true -servers 10.98.200.100,10.98.200.101
The services nis-domain show command displays the following information about NIS domain configurations:
Virtual server name
NIS domain name
Whether the NIS domain configuration is active
NIS-server IP address or addresses
Other information is displayed in a detailed view and if other parameters are specified. See the reference page for the command for details.
The following example displays information about all NIS-domain configurations:
node::>services nis-domain showVirtual Domain Active NIS Server Name Server vs0 example.com true 10.98.200.100, 10.98.200.101
The services nis-domain modify command enables you to modify the virtual server, NIS domain, status (active or inactive), and NIS-server IP addresses of an NIS-domain configuration. The following example disables the NIS-domain configuration for a virtual server named vs0 and an NIS domain named example.com; it also changes the list of NIS-server IP addresses.
node::>services nis-domain modify -vserver vs0 -domain example.com -active false -servers 10.98.200.100,10.98.200.101,10.98.200.102node::>services nis-domain showVirtual Domain Active NIS Server Name Server vs0 example.com false 10.98.200.100, 10.98.200.101, 10.98.200.102
To delete an NIS-domain configuration, use the services nis-domain delete command. The command does not delete the virtual server or the NIS domain, just the configuration between the two.
The following example deletes the NIS-domain configuration between a virtual server named vs0 and an NIS domain named example.com.
node::>services nis-domain delete -vserver vs0 -domain example.com
